Buying a rifle F2F , does the Gov't have me tracked?

Suppose I buy a rifle face to face , but the seller writes me a receipt with my license ID# so he can check it with his FFL to make sure I'm alright.

What do you think the odds are of the government gaining the knowledge of my purchase?? Would the FFL have to physically give up the information, or does the government find out when a background check is completed??

I can easily find places to buy F2F, but everybody wants a license copy.
I'm in NY by the way(not NYC).

I'm not 100% sure on this specific issue, but an FFL can get in serious trouble for doing background checks on anyone who isn't actually buying a gun from him. If you're buying a gun from a private individual and the FFL is basically a third party, it sounds like a situation where he could lose his license. You're in one of those commie-dominated states, though so you might have slightly different state law than we have down my way.

In theory there shouldn't be any records generated or stored by those background checks, or from the 4473's and the ATF should not be keeping a national database of gun owners. In practice the ATF is a criminal organization that regularly violates federal law, state law, constitutional law and their own charters. They have a program in place to help states track their gun owners on a voluntary basis, it's just a happy convenience that all the data passes through ATF servers.

If you don't want to be tracked then no paperwork is the only way to go. The other way of looking at it is that if you're anything other than a sheep you're probably on the list already, whether or not you're the guy at the top. I stopped worrying too much about that a while ago. They're either going to leave everybody alone and there's no problem, or they're not and there's going to be problems for everybody. It reminds me of an old gospel song, "I went to the rock to hide my face, but the rock cried out no hiding place!"

I focus on not being caught unawares and surviving the initial confrontation, even if that means I'm outmaneuvered and have to surrender some weapons to keep my life and/or a degree of autonomy. If after that I find that I will need a rifle I have no doubts there will be plenty of them lying on the ground.

You can consider non-tracked weapons, those which are considered obsolete but are still as deadly as they ever were. This could include bows, crossbows, blackpowder firearms... you can even get conversion cyclinders to fire blackpowder cartridges from blackpowder revolvers. Since the revolver initially does not fire fixed ammunition it is not heavily regulated. Since the cylinder does not count as a firearm according to the badguys it is also not regulated. Put the two together and voila! You're a cowboy!

I also like to know how to make things and do things because they can't confiscate knowledge. I can make a deadly projectile weapon from my shoelaces if I have to. I can't be disarmed, only inconvenienced. It's good to have the option of picking your battles and being able to work with what you have to get somewhere better.

True you've got a good point. I've considered getting a crossbow, but have only researched the basics of them so far.

IF I was worried about paperwork, I'd simply, in theory, this is not advice, take a little road trip one weekend in a southerly direction, pick up a local 'trader's paper' and make a few phone calls...they not only won't ask for your license, but won't even ask your name.

Cash, no checks.

For example, this is one of the local papers here:

Here's another ( and back out to HOME, since this one covers a 4 state region with different issues and ads.

Then I'd return home with my Christmas presents.
